General Motors shuts down four truck plants

This was all over the news yesterday, so I though I would put my two cents in. GM finally looks like they are responding to high fuel prices. People don’t want the gas chugging SUVs and trucks anymore, they want something that will keep them away from the gas station as long as possible.

Now what would help people get good fuel millage, let’s see, how about a diesel car! GM has no Diesel cars for 2008 (They plan on a Cadillac CTS in 2009.), but they do have the Duramax in the full size trucks and vans. But huge vans and trucks won’t be practical for everyone. I think They have been really slow to react to the fuel prices in U.S. The Japanese, Koreans and Europeans are ahead of the big 3 with efficient cars people actually want. While Chrysler started to make Diesels available in Jeeps, the engines they use aren’t made by them. the Jeep Liberty uses a Italian made Diesel, (Jeep liberty Diesel was discontinued.) and the Jeep Grand Cherokee CRD uses the Mercedes V6. GM, Ford and Chrysler need to consider making a Diesel option for every vehicle they build. enough with the bandades, start planing for the future. The title should read GM shuts down 4 truck plants, opens 4 Diesel car plants. If you want to find out more about this I found the Articles from blog.wired.com and bbc.
